Welcome
A podcast for the people whose lives don’t fit on a single map. Hosted by Sabiya Pathan Withoeck, every conversation is about identity, belonging, and the real human cost of building a life across cultures, countries, and systems.
Listen to episodesWhy listen
Rooted and Routed isn’t a relocation podcast. It isn’t a checklist for moving abroad, and it isn’t a highlight reel of the expat life. It’s a space for the conversations that actually matter when your life crosses borders — what you bring with you, what you have to leave, what changes inside you, and what stays.
Each episode brings forward voices shaped by cross-border lives — expats, returnees, diplomats, founders, educators, parents, and third-culture humans. The show examines lived experience alongside the systems that surround global mobility: work, education, leadership, policy, culture, and family.

About the podcast
Rooted and Routed was built on a simple belief: that the most useful conversations about global mobility aren’t the practical ones. They’re the human ones. The story behind the move, the identity that has to be re-negotiated, the family that gets stretched, the version of yourself you leave behind, the new one you don’t recognise yet.
New episodes drop every Friday. Listen on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

About
Sabiya Pathan Withoeck
Host & Creator of Rooted and Routed
Sabiya is the curator of the conversations on Rooted and Routed — a podcast for the people whose lives don’t map onto a single country. Her interviewing draws on the kind of curiosity that only comes from having lived the questions herself.
What does it cost to belong in more than one place? What does it mean to root yourself when the ground keeps shifting? Those are the questions every guest gets asked — in some form, with no script.
Rooted and Routed launched as a long-form podcast in 2024 and now publishes weekly episodes on YouTube and all major audio platforms.
